Mural Art

Traditionally murals are painted directly on exterior or interior walls. Thanks to wide format print technology mural art can be printed on a variety of materials to wrap almost any surface from walls to floors, desks, filing cabinets and more.

In terms of  material, a vast variety of choices in fabrics, films, adhesives and laminates are available today to get just the right finish. You can also choose to have your mural art to be permanent, removable or changeable.

Commission a mural to add value and décor to your home or office. Think of a mural as an investment like any other interior design investment. Hire an artist, illustrator or graphic designer to create your custom mural. This will give you the option to include personalization – images, words, colour palettes, etc.

How I quote Mural Art:

Let’s have an initial consultation and inspection of the actual wall before we begin work. I’ll need to measure the wall. The wall must be smooth and crack free. Within 24 hours you will be provided with a project quote and your timeline.

I charge approx. $30.00 per square foot with a minimum of 120 square feet. (Square Foot is determined by multiplying the height x width of the painting surface).

*Price per square foot may increase if design requested is complex. This will be indicated in your price quote and determined at the time that the final sketch is approved. However the larger the area the bigger the discount per sq. ft you will receive. For example at 300 sq. ft. the price per square foot is $26.00.

Pricing starts at $30 per square foot and decreases with increased size of mural; at 290 sq. ft. the price drops to $28/sf – at 500 sf drops to $26/sf – at 900+ sf price drops to $24/sf.

What’s Next:

A Non-Refundable Design/Sketch Fee:  $1,500.00 – Includes up to 2 sets of changes by client (Additional sketches charged at $100/sketch)

Pricing includes: Travel within Toronto/GTA all materials, rental equipment.

Pricing does not include: Travel outside of GTA liability insurance or wall preparation.

*Additional work due to adverse conditions on surface that requires extraneous labor will be charged extra at a rate of $150.00 / hour, and sometimes cannot be determined until after the job has begun.

PRINT/INSTALL PAYMENT TERMS: Design fee of $1,500 due prior to sketch process, plus 50%  non-refundable deposit is due two weeks prior to installation date on approved artwork. Full balance is due on the final day of completion.

All murals are printed on your choice of material and professionally installed, (there is no extra fee for installation, your costs are covered)!

If you prefer paint directly on your walls, either exterior or interior,  location painting starts at $60.00 sq/ft and will be quoted to include travel within Toronto/GTA all materials, rental equipment, assistant fees and work to completion.

LOCATION PAYMENT TERMS: Design fee of $1,500 due prior to sketch process. A 50% non-refundable deposit is due two weeks prior to start date of painting (this allows ordering of supplies and scheduling.) Full balance is due on the final day of completion.

Spring sensations.

It’s mid-February and the hilltops and streets are covered with ice and snow. In Canada, complaining about the cold is a national pastime. For those of us that aren’t seeking downhill winter adventures it’s a good time to conjure up that nice spring sensation.

Artisan made aromatherapy candles infused with natural essential oils, can act as your sensorial tour guide, transporting you to distant places.“Ocean Mist” blends evocative notes of coastal driftwood with sea moss and fresh lilacs in full bloom on a warm spring day while the aromatic perfume of Hyacinth Blooms” sweeps you into a whirlwind of floral infused happiness.

I couldn’t decide which one I liked best, so I bought both. Bye-bye winter blues.

How to make a big impression on Valentines Day.

Visual Communications projects past and present.

Artists and designers both create visual products. “Artists however, create primarily for aesthetics — eye-candy to be consumed by the viewer”. The actual art has no function other than to convey the artist’s vision. Vision is the art of seeing the invisible, it does not have a physical reality, and it is an idea or a concept made real through creative work.

Designers create strategic solutions as a form of communication that relate back to business goals and solve problems for its stakeholders. While both artists and designers compose visuals and have a shared toolkit and knowledge base, it is not uncommon for graphic designers to consider themselves to be fine artists.

Before the Arts and Crafts Movement at the turn of the 20th century, Art schools made a distinction between the fine arts and the crafts, maintaining that a craftsperson could not be considered a practitioner of the arts.”

Today, there is less of a hard line between applied arts and fine art. The term “visual arts” includes fine art as well as the applied, decorative arts and crafts. Significance is given to the concept or intention of the artist regardless of the means through which it is expressed.

The thrill of artistic experimentation, that seems more like play than work, is my motive for preserving a multiplicity of artistic identities. Eventually my fine art goal will be to develop a brand that’s recognizable, working in a cohesive style to build a new body of work. In the meantime, because my daily work routine seems to revolve around Visual Communication Design, scope and flexibility seems to be advantageous — still fun, but more like work.
